Garner Loses Interest in Track

Troy Garner of Notre Dame High, the defending Southern Section Division III champion in the 400 meters, has quit the track team, saying his heart was no longer into sprinting.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Garner, who is headed to USC on a football scholarship, ran personal bests of 10.7 seconds in the 100 and 21.7 in the 200 earlier this month.
“My heart just wasn’t into it anymore,” said Garner, who has run 48.65 in the 400. “And I felt like I shouldn’t be out there if that was the case.”
