Residents Organize Alley Clean-Up
La Colonia residents are seeking volunteers for a large-scale effort Saturday to remove trash and abandoned furniture from the Oxnard neighborhood’s alleys.
About 25 members of City Corps, a city-sponsored youth employment program, will help with the cleanup, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Residents and volunteers plan to meet at the handball courts in Colonia Park at 1st Street and Juanita Avenue.
“The alleys are really dirty,” said Vicky Gonzalez, chairwoman of the La Colonia Neighborhood Council. “There are lots of old sofas, trash and weeds.”
Gonzalez said the cleanup crews will use a truck to collect old furniture. She also said residents are encouraged to clean up the areas behind their homes so the truck can gather the debris.
For more information, call Gonzalez at 483-3500.
