Jones Homers, Titans Rally to Win

Jack Jones hit a two-run home run to key Cal State Fullerton’s four-run seventh inning as the Titans rallied to beat Pacific, 13-11, in a Big West Conference game Friday night in Stockton.

C.J. Ankrum also homered and finished three for four with five runs batted in for the Titans (17-2, 2-0). Jeremy Giambi continued his hot hitting in the series, going four for four with two doubles and two RBIs. Giambi has hit safely in seven of eight at-bats against the Spartans (10-5, 0-2).

Pacific led, 9-7, heading into the seventh inning after roughing up Brent Billingsley for seven hits and five runs in three innings. But Jones’ home run and RBI-hits by Giambi and Ankrum gave the Titans an 11-9 lead.

Michael Greenlee (1-1) picked up the victory, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

In the Husky Classic baseball tournament at the Kingdome:

Long Beach State 6, Washington State 2--Will Skett homered twice and drove in three runs and Casey Snow added two doubles and two RBIs for the 49ers. Rocky Biddle improved to 3-2, pitching six innings, giving up six hits, two runs and striking out seven.

At the Southern California Intercollegiate golf tournament:

UC Irvine leads--Irvine’s Brian Ricketts shot even-par 72 to take a two-stroke lead in the university division of the two-day event at Torrey Pines in La Jolla. Irvine leads Long Beach State’s junior varsity, 302-306. Irvine’s Shawn Morley and Jeremy Price each shot two-over 74s.

In the college division, Chapman is in second, trailing UC San Diego, 314-326. Chapman’s Sean St. Clair and UC San Diego’s Arnie Campbell each shot three-over 73.

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 5-0, Belmont (Tenn.) 0-2--Jen Merrow hit a two-run single to highlight a four-run third and she pitched a five-hitter for host SCC (7-5-2) in the first game of the doubleheader. April Faircloth pitched a no-hitter for Belmont (3-8) in the second game.
