Mrs. Fields Settles Charges Over Low-Fat Claims: Mrs. Fields Cookies Inc. and the Federal Trade Commission have agreed to settle federal charges that the country’s largest producer of fresh-baked cookies falsely promoted some products as low in fat, the FTC said. The agency disputed low-fat claims in advertising and promotional material for Chocolite and Semi-Sweet Classic products. Each of the cookies contained 5.5 grams of fat, which exceeds federal Food and Drug Administration regulations that allow low-fat claims only for products containing less than 3 grams of fat per serving, the FTC said. To settle the allegations, Salt Lake City-based Mrs. Fields agreed that it would not misrepresent the amount of fat, cholesterol or calories in its baked goods.
