Northridge Gets Lineman From Bakersfield

Herndon Santiago, a 6-4, 240-pound defensive end from Bakersfield City College, signed a letter of intent Wednesday with Cal State Northridge.
The Matadors have also signed Darian Hatcher, a 6-0, 205-pound cornerback from Chabot College in Hayward, and Robert Micias, a 6-3, 205-pound safety from Gavilan College in Gilroy.
Northridge coaches have received letters from 15 junior college players and gotten commitments from two others who have yet to return their letters. The signing period for junior college players ends Feb. 6.

Steve Aylsworth of Westlake High will play football and basketball at Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., where his brother, Bob, was the Patriot League’s most valuable player in football last season.

Brock Diediker, a linebacker and running back from Newbury Park, has made a commitment to BYU, joining his twin, Brant.
Basketball
Saugus High girls’ Coach Laurie Roland, pregnant and due the end of the month, has stepped down for the remainder of the season.
Roland will be replaced by junior varsity coach and varsity assistant Susan Sparks.
Track and Field
Louisville High has an assistant-coaching position open for the upcoming season.

Woodland Hills Recreation Center will hold registration Feb. 3 at its sports office starting at 7:30 a.m. for youths 5-15.

Signups for Sunrise Little League are scheduled for Jan. 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for boys and girls 5-15.

Applications for an adult flag football league at Pierce College will be accepted through Feb. 16.
