In a suspected gang-related incident, a group of six to 10 unidentified males rushed into a residence in the 3900 block of Marshall Street in Ventura and assaulted a 17-year-old boy Wednesday night, police officials said.
The victim was struck with a chair, beaten and kicked, officials said. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was treated for lacerations to his head and for two broken fingers, one on each hand, police said. He was later released from the hospital.
After entering the home just after 11 p.m., the assailants yelled what police said was a gang statement and surrounded and beat the victim. One of the assailants was brandishing a knife, police said.
The residence was occupied by several teenage boys, said Ventura Police Sgt. Bob Velez. He described the other occupants of the residence as the victim’s friends.
“They are very reluctant witnesses,” Velez said.
Police said they are searching for several suspects.
