Body of Woman Found Near Train Tracks

GLENDALE — A woman’s beaten and partially clothed body was found in some bushes near railroad tracks here Friday morning, police said.

The woman, who carried no identification, appeared to be a transient between 30 and 40 years old and was discovered near Alger Street and West Chevy Chase Drive wearing only a blouse and one shoe, said Glendale Police Sgt. Rick Young.

A sheriff’s deputy patrolling the area for Metrolink found the body after noticing some clothing on the bushes. The victim lay face-up next to the brick wall topped with barbed wire that surrounds the Glendale Public Works maintenance yard, police said.

“It’s a common area for transients to eat, sleep and party,” Young said.

Police sealed off the area around 8 a.m. as detectives paced up and down the tracks looking for evidence. No suspects have been arrested, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

The coroner’s office said it was too early to tell if the woman, whose body was found in an industrial area about half a block east of Chevy Chase Park, had been sexually assaulted.
