PREP ROUNDUP : Burgess Leads Woodbridge Past Sonora, 52-51

Chris Burgess made a 25-foot shot with three seconds remaining to give second-ranked Woodbridge a 52-51 victory over No. 10 Sonora in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Tuesday at Sonora.
The Raiders (4-1), who defeated Woodbridge in the finals of the National Sports Grill tournament Saturday, led by seven at the half, but were outscored, 22-10, in the third quarter.
Burgess scored a game-high 34 points for the Warriors (4-1) and Ben Jones had 15 for Sonora.
In the Century boys’ basketball shootout:
Century 57, Bolsa Grande 47--Junior Ricky Lopez scored 16 points and Chris Lopez added 15 for Century (2-1).
Magnolia 88, Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe 47--Zamiro Bennem scored 18 points and Henry Welch added 12 for Magnolia (1-0).
In the Converse Classic:
Long Beach Wilson 71, Capistrano Valley 63--Dan Galvanoni scored 17 points and Austin Moherman 14 for fourth-ranked Capistrano Valley (2-3), which led at the half, 31-28, before getting outscored in the third quarter, 20-12.
In nonleague games:
University 66, Irvine 62--University outscored Irvine in the fourth quarter, 30-16, in the victory. Eric Palm had 17 points and Nathan Scoggin 14 for the Trojans (1-1).
In the South Coast Classic girls’ basketball tournament:
Capistrano Valley 57, San Bernardino 55--Sarina Kissel scored 17 points and Mary Anderson 15 for 10th-ranked Capistrano Valley (2-0), which held on after leading at the half, 30-19.
Newport Harbor 58, Esperanza 45--Andree Verhulst had 16 points for Newport Harbor in a second-round victory.
University 57, Santa Margarita 38--Lyz Day scored 15 points on five three-pointers as University (2-0) advanced to the semifinals. Carlie Willard led Santa Margarita (1-1) with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
In nonleague girls’ basketball:
Edison 58, Long Beach Wilson 34--Marie Philman scored 24 points, had 10 rebounds and six steals for fourth-ranked Edison (3-0). Teammate Kerry O’Bric added 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Marina 89, Long Beach Poly 49--Sonya Bryant had 21 points and eight steals and Kirsten Cappel also scored 21 points for sixth-ranked Marina (5-0).
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Mission Viejo 6, El Modena 2--The 10th-ranked Diablos surprised No. 5 El Modena by scoring three consecutive goals in the first half.
