Three mixed repertory programs by the San Francisco Ballet at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa last week drew only 3,405 people, or 39% of capacity, a new low for paid attendance at a series of dance events there. Paid attendance during seven performances of the “Nutcracker” by the same troupe was 14,248, or 70% of capacity, according to center spokesman Gregory Patterson. “Although the attendance for the repertory evenings was somewhat disappointing, the center was encouraged by the strong acclaim San Francisco Ballet received both critically and from the audience,” Patterson said. “The center remains committed to its dance series and to building our audience over the long term.”
South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa has added a pay-what-you-will performance ($5 minimum) of “A Christmas Carol” tonight at 7:30. Tickets go on sale at the box office (655 Town Center Drive) at 10 a.m. (714) 957-4033.
