Brooks vs. Beatles
Like the rest of the country, Los Angeles is caught in the grip of Beatlemania. “The Beatles Anthology 1,” a two-CD collection of rarities that also includes the first “new” song by the Fab Four since 1970, is No. 1 on The Times’ Southern California album chart. Its strong first week overshadowed a successful debut by Garth Brooks’ “Fresh Horses,” which trails only the Beatles’ album on the local and national album charts and is No. 1 on the national and local country album charts.
