The Bitter Tea of General Yen (KCET Sunday at 1 p.m.) is arguably Frank Capra’s most unusual film ever, a sophisticated and moving story of mutual attraction between a missionary (Barbara Stanwyck) and a Chinese warlord (Nils Asther).
Desert Bloom (Bravo Saturday at 6:30 p.m.) is an exceptionally accurate 1986 evocation of Cold War Americana from debut writer-director Eugene Corr. Here, the lovely Annabeth Gish comes of age just at the dawning of the nuclear age in the ‘50s.
