UCLA officials have been assured by officials of the Aloha Bowl that no decision will be made on a Pacific 10 Conference representative for that event until after Saturday’s games.
A Bruin victory over USC would give UCLA a 7-4 season mark and, it would appear, clinch an Aloha berth.
“They said we are still under consideration,” Coach Terry Donahue said. “If we win, we have a better chance than if we don’t.”

Karim Watch, Day 4: Forty-eight hours before the USC game, Donahue still doesn’t know if tailback Karim Abdul-Jabbar, his leading rusher, will play because of a sprained right ankle, suffered last Saturday against Washington. Abdul-Jabbar sat out practice Thursday in order to undergo continuing treatment for the injury.
“I haven’t ruled him out,” Donahue said, “but my own intuition is that he won’t play. I hope I’m dead wrong. Boy, do I hope I’m wrong. But my experience over the years is that the guys who are not practicing on Thursday are not making it.”
