A philanthropic family has given $1.5 million to Chapman University to establish a center for entrepreneurship and business ethics.
Businessman Ralph W. Leatherby and his wife, Eleanor, made the gift this week, almost one year after donating $1.25 million to create an entrepreneurship chair. The two gifts form the business school’s largest contribution, Chapman President James Doti said.
The new funds will be used to create the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics in the School of Business and Economics, officials said. It will carry Ralph Leatherby’s name.
The couple’s son, Russell, 42, an instructor at the university, will serve without salary as center director. He was chief executive of UniCARE Insurance Co., which was founded by his father and bought out in March.
Russell Leatherby and Thomas Turk, the professor who holds the chair for entrepreneurship, said they hope to establish a mentorship program for students, among other goals.
