San Gabriel Valley : ROLL OF THE DICE

In Pomona, meanwhile, a residents’ group opposed to gambling is asking the state Supreme Court to block a Nov. 7 city election on whether to allow a card club to open in the community.
The court could decide whether to hear the Committee Against Casinos case as early as this week, said Ron Vera, the group’s attorney.
“This is our last chance to stop the November 7th election,” Vera said. Pomona voters will be asked if they want a casino to open in the south of the city near the Pomona and Corona freeways.
Last month, the committee sued the city, charging that it is a violation of state law to hold a special election on the same issue twice within a year. Pomona voters rejected card clubs in a special election just last April.
