Damian Garcia’s winning time of 16:10 paced Crossroads to a nonleague cross-country victory over Santa Monica and Culver City. The Roadrunners were aided by twin brothers Mike and Jeff Tomlinson, who tied for seventh. Santa Monica won the girls’ meet, led by junior Lauren Larson, first in 21:31. . . . Lanell Irby scored two touchdowns, both on 80-yard kickoff returns, in Hollywood’s 36-27 loss to Fairfax. . . . Junior E.J. Rodriguez ran for 132 yards in 25 carries in St. Monica’s 22-12 loss to Blair. . . . St. Bernard running back Jerome Heavens scored four touchdowns and ran for 252 yards in a 38-21 victory over Redondo. . . . Beverly Hills is off to a 3-0 start, its most recent victory coming over West Torrance, 17-0, behind Aaron Kogan’s 137 yards in 32 carries. . . . Hamilton’s Jamar Alexander suffered a bruised back and was treated for 30 minutes by paramedics, but returned to throw two touchdown passes in the final 1:48 of a 23-20 loss at Eagle Rock. . . . Jessica Papell had 12 kills in the finals and was named MVP of the Mammoth Volleyball Invitational, won by her Windward School team, which beat defending champion Whittel of Nevada, 12-15, 15-13, 16-14, in the finals.
