An alleged gang member is in custody following a shooting in North Hollywood that claimed the life of a Burbank man, police said.
Juan Calderon, 20, of North Hollywood was apprehended after officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s gang detail saw David Paul Morrison, 20, collapse from a gunshot wound at the corner of Magnolia Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue at approximately 9:20 p.m. Friday night.
Police had earlier observed a group of 10 to 12 alleged gang members creating a disturbance at the same intersection, on the eastern edge of North Hollywood Park. Morrison was across the street at the edge of the park when he was shot, police said.
Officers captured Calderon east of the park after pursuing the group on foot. Paramedics pronounced Morrison dead at the scene.
Calderon was booked on suspicion of murder at the LAPD’s North Hollywood station, said Sgt. Robert Ontiveros.
Ontiveros said there is no indication that the two men knew each other.
