COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Lambright Jibe Gets Ball Rolling

The USC-Washington football game won’t be played until Oct. 28 in Seattle, but apparently Husky Coach Jim Lambright has decided to start the festivities early.
Lambright, a guest on Seattle radio station KJR’s “Mike Gastineau Show” last Friday, referred to the Trojans as “the team in the ghetto.”
Lambright was asked about an item in this year’s USC football media guide, asking media outlets not to use the term Southern Cal when referring to USC, the school’s preferred usage.
“It’s like calling San Francisco ‘Frisco’ or North Carolina ‘North Car,’ ” the item read.
Asked how he would refer to “that school in downtown Los Angeles,” Lambright responded with a laugh and said, “You mean the team in the ghetto?”
