SECURITY VIOLATION: Some people just don’t have any respect for authority. . . . Two unarmed men robbed a Brinks guard of his wallet Tuesday as he entered the Glendale Wells Fargo Bank building on North Brand Boulevard, police said. The robbers also wrestled away the guard’s gun and his money bag, which carried no cash. Said Glendale police spokesman Chahe Keuroghelian: “I guess they wanted to get away with everything possible.”
TALK BREAK: Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Sid Thompson visits the Valley today to make his first statements on the district’s breakup since Gov. Pete Wilson signed a bill easing the process. . . . Thompson will speak in North Hills to the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley, which favors the breakup. “I’m sure there will be questions about the breakup bill,” said United Chambers President Jerry Curry.
HOT WHEELS: When a movie scout needed a yellow firetruck for an upcoming feature film, he only needed to make one stop: Joseph Ortiz Jr.’s Sun Valley home. . . . A retired firefighter, Ortiz, above, has collected about 30 operational firetrucks and other emergency vehicles (B1).
TEAM APPROACH: A federal jury awarded $651,000 Tuesday to a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy whose wife had been answering the phones in Gorman for the department without pay. . . . The jury ruled that the department had intimidated the deputy when he complained about his wife’s situation (B1).
