Judge Dismisses Briseno Reinstatement Lawsuit

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit by Theodore J. Briseno, a key figure in the Rodney G. King police beating case who was trying to get his job back with the Los Angeles Police Department.
U.S. District Judge John G. Davies, who presided over the federal civil rights case against Briseno and three other former officers involved in the 1991 beating of King during a traffic stop, granted the city’s motion to dismiss the suit late last week, City Atty. James Hahn said Monday.
Briseno filed the suit in October, contending that the city failed to provide a defense for him in the King case and accusing his superiors of retaliating against him for comments he made after the beating.
Briseno was acquitted during the federal trial, but he was nonetheless fired from the LAPD for use of excessive force.
