Westside : Neighborhood Seeks Gates
A Malibu neighborhood that has been used as a dump site for construction materials and garbage wants to become a gated community.
“If we have a gate, we can keep out people who don’t belong,” said Neil Bullock, president of the La Chusa Highlands Improvement Assn., a group seeking to gate three privately owned streets in West Malibu.
The residents also fear being sued by motorists who are injured in accidents on their streets.
Another Malibu neighborhood, Serra Retreat, already has installed a gatehouse and private security officers after losing $1 million in just such a lawsuit.
