Sting Wins National Softball Championship

The Irvine Sting won three games Sunday to win the American Fastpitch Assn. 14-and-under girls’ national softball title in Vernon, Conn.
The Sting, 9-0 in the tournament, beat Rancho Bernardino, 6-3, in the title game. The Sting had defeated Rancho Bernardino, 4-2, and Long Island, 8-4, earlier Sunday.
Heather McConnell, Jamie Ota, Lauren Schwenhimian, Colleen Young and Marti McKeever of the Sting were selected to the all-tournament team.
