A murder charge was filed Wednesday against an 18-year-old alleged gang member in the shooting death of a 20-year-old Van Nuys man, authorities said.
Juan Ramirez pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in Van Nuys Municipal Court.
Los Angeles Police Detective Mark Aragon said Ramirez fatally shot Fortino Sandoval early Monday after Sandoval denied gang membership.
Sandoval had been sitting in a car with a friend when he was approached by Ramirez, Aragon said. Witnesses identified Ramirez, and he was arrested Monday morning, Aragon said.
