HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 26-year-old woman riding a tandem bicycle with her husband four days after their wedding was struck and killed by a motorist Saturday.
Rae Anne Akstinas, of Huntington Beach, who was riding on the back of the tandem, died at the scene of the 12:05 p.m. accident on Atlanta Avenue between Magnolia and Bushard streets, police said.
Akstinas’ husband, 23-year-old Ilan Meir Fahima, was treated for minor scrapes and bruises at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.
Neither Akstinas nor Fahima was wearing a helmet, police said. The couple were riding east on Atlanta when they were struck from behind by a sport-utility vehicle, killing Akstinas almost instantly, Police Lt. Jon Arnold said. The motorist was not cited.
Fahima’s family lives in Israel, a relative of Akstinas said. The couple was married here last week.
