MISSION VIEJO : Fast-Food Restaurants Filling a Local Void

Residents who have long complained about the lack of restaurants in the city are seeing the situation remedied in short order.
Several fast-food restaurants have opened or submitted plans for franchises, and the Planning Commission on Monday gave Del Taco approval to renovate the former Hawthorne Savings & Loan at 24465 Alicia Parkway.
With Subway Sandwiches and Denny’s restaurants already in Alicia Towne Plaza, city officials said, a Del Taco would fit into the mix of retail shops and restaurants there.
“A big concern has been the parking,” said Charles Wilson, city planner. “Fast-food places generally generate more cars than banks.”
But over the years, he said, the parking lot in that center has not usually been crowded except at Christmas.
