ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Taking in a Show
The first movie theater in Santa Ana, the Bijou, opened in 1904 on the west side of Sycamore Street.
The price of admission was 10 cents for adults and 5 cents for children.
Because the projector was too powerful for the electrical system, fuses often blew out during shows, causing long delays until the fuse was replaced.
The Bijou was one of Orange County’s few so-called grand movie houses.
