A 22-year-old alleged gang member was fatally shot in Santa Monica early Wednesday in what police said was a clash between the victim and a rival gang.
Luis Cueva of Santa Monica died of a single gunshot to his chest shortly after 3 a.m. at Santa Monica Hospital, said police Sgt. Gary Gallinot.
Cueva and an unidentified female were parked at Pico Boulevard and 20th Street when several men drove up in a dark sedan. After an exchange of gang signs, one of the men exited the car and shot at Cueva several times, hitting him once.
