Serrania Avenue School Is an Ideal of Success
- Share via
* I was perplexed by the letter of Lynn Segal (May 28) regarding Woodland Hills Elementary and Serrania Elementary. By what does he judge the “success” of either school?
My sons have attended both schools. My older son attended Serrania Elementary from grades 1 through 3 and Woodland Hills Elementary for grades 4 through 5. My younger son attended Woodland Hills in grades 1 through 3 and transferred to Serrania in midyear of the third grade. He is in fourth grade presently at Serrania.
Each school has merit. Woodland Hills has an incredible touch for fund raising. Serrania extends itself to the community, making every parent and child feel special.
I found the basic structure of the Los Angeles Unified School District in place at both schools. Classrooms at Woodland Hills weren’t any less crowded than Serrania. Teachers were dedicated and, for the most part, highly qualified. My children fared equally well educationally at each school.
After I transferred my younger son to Serrania in midyear of third grade, the change in him was profound. Every aspect of learning, from basic skills to attitude, improved. We felt we had come home.
Serrania Avenue Elementary not a success? As a recent recipient of the California Distinguished School Award, a principal and staff that works extraordinarily hard to bring the highest possible educational process to each and every student and dedicated parents who donate many hours of their time, Serrania Avenue Elementary is the epitome of success.
