More than 200 young gymnasts from across Southern California will compete here this weekend for regional titles.
The competitors, who range in age from 8 to 16, come from as far north as Bakersfield and as far south as San Diego to the intermediate-level finals today and Sunday at SCATS Gymnastic Academy.
“This is fun to watch,” said Don Peters, executive director of SCATS and a former coach for the U.S. Olympic gymnastic team. “The kids are really young and really cute. And everyone is doing the same routine, so it’s easy to compare.”
Meets for Level 6 are today from 1 to 9:30 p.m. on the school grounds, 5742 McFadden Ave. Level 7 competition will be Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m.
Tickets, which cost $5 for adults and $4 for children younger than 13, will be sold at the door.
