WESTLAKE VILLAGE : Water Rates Will Increase This Month

About 6,600 water users in the Westlake Village area can expect to see an increase in their water bills beginning June 26, officials of the California Water Service Co. said.
Elaine Marchessault, the company’s district manager, said customers will see a 6.3% increase, or an additional $4.49 a month for the average Westlake ratepayer. Customers can expect an additional 2.1% rate increase in 1996, and 1.6% increases in 1997 and 1998.
The rate hikes recently received preliminary approval from the California Public Utilities Commission, Marchessault said. Final approval is expected June 21.
The money will fund increases in the water company’s operating costs, along with improvements to its permanent facilities, she said.
The increase comes in addition to a separate hike imposed this year that was the result of an increase in the cost of the water the company buys from other purveyors.
