*** Holly Vincent and Johnette Napolitano, “Vowel Movement,” Mammoth. L.A. homegirls Johnette Napolitano (of Concrete Blonde) and Holly Vincent (of the early new wave outfit Holly and the Italians) collaborate for the first time on album, and produce their best work yet. Napolitano’s creamy vocals meld with Vincent’s more edgy tone, then echo over an atmospheric backdrop of shimmering melodies. A richly inventive album.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
