PREP BASEBALL : Fountain Valley Narrowly Earns Chance at a Repeat

Top-seeded Fountain Valley scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 2-1 victory against Fontana in a Southern Section Division I semifinal Tuesday at Blair Field in Long Beach.
The Barons (25-3), the defending Division I champions, will play La Puente Bishop Amat, a 9-3 winner against Chino Hills Ayala, for the title on Saturday at Anaheim Stadium.
Joey Rozek walked to lead off the seventh and went to second on a wild pitch. Victor Ortega then bunted and pitcher Mike Torres’ wild throw to first allowed Rozek to score.
Harbor City Narbonne 8, Bell 7--Brian Mugford hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to give the Gauchos (19-9) the lead for good in a City Section Division 3-A semifinal at East L.A. College.
South Gate 7, Franklin 5--The Rams (25-6) broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when Albert Melchor hit a two-run single in a City Section Division 3-A game at Crystal Springs Park. Winning pitcher Andy Silva (3-2) had three runs batted in.
La Habra Sonora 9, Temecula Valley 3--Junior Rodriguez pitched a five-hitter and started a five-run fourth inning with a leadoff home run as the Raiders (23-4) prevailed in a Southern Section Division II game at Cypress College. Rodriguez (9-0) went two for three with two runs.
Westminster La Quinta 10, Pico Rivera El Rancho 8--Corey Fox’s two-run double broke an 8-8 tie in the ninth inning, helping the Aztecs (26-3) past the Dons (18-7) in a Southern Section Division III game at Whittier California High.
La Quinta trailed, 5-1, before scoring seven runs in the sixth.
