ENGLAND SWINGS: After suffering writer’s block for 15 months, New Order’s Bernard Sumner has completed the lyrics for a new album by Electronic, the side project he shares with ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. The cure for the block? Prozac.
Sumner was one of several artists who volunteered to try Prozac as part of an experiment conducted in England by the BBC television program “The Late Show” to examine the effects of the controversial drug on creativity.
Explaining that the drug made his writing less introverted, Sumner said, “What I tend to write about now is how the world looks to me, rather than how I look to me.”
We’ll have to wait until late this year or early next year to learn how the world seems to Sumner. He and Marr are still working on the album in Manchester.
