* Re “Selfish Brats of the World, Unite,” Column Left, by Mike Males, March 9: It was fired at the wrong target. We over-40 baby boomers are the kids who protested the Vietnam War and gave up our young to it. We lost our innocence in the tragic deaths of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy. It was the group after us, the “yuppies” with their BMWs and designer labels that became symbols of materialism. For them the war was a hot topic for current events class.
If Males has a mea culpa to perform, let him beat his own chest. California’s decades of greed are a culmination of a populace mind-set involving a cross-section of voters.
