Cut Back the Fat in Ventura Positions
* The rosy picture that Ventura Mayor Tom Buford is painting is not so rosy or perhaps is tarnished.
In one sentence he introduces scare tactics in talking about the possibility of reducing our superb police and fire services. Those services, especially in today’s society, are the most important services in any community.
There are numerous other city bureaucratic positions that could be trimmed by cutting the fat. There are many city employees who are grossly overpaid for services performed. Perhaps the mayor and council members ought to consider performing their duties as honorary services.
We need industrial development that can plant roots in this area to establish permanent jobs. For the past 10 years the theory has been to get rid of guaranteed income structures by over taxation and ridiculous regulations. Nearly 4,000 industrial jobs have left this area due to the outrageous costs and high workers’ compensation costs and absolutely no encouragement by the city.
Those of us that are left and maintain solvency are forced to cut back or lay off with no upswing in sight.
The definition of leadership is to create long-term stability for a community, not pipe dreams.
