Hopalong Cassidy’s Widow Wins Judgment: Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Irving Shimer ordered Fireman’s Fund to pay $3.3 million to Grace Boyd, widow of actor William Boyd, who played “Hoppy,” and to the distributors of Hopalong Cassidy films. The payment settles a 20-year-long copyright suit. Fireman’s Fund was the insurer of the original defendant, Filmvideo, which sought bankruptcy protection shortly after a previous court ordered the firm to pay $1.325 million in 1982. Fireman’s Fund, which can appeal the decision, could not be reached for comment.
