A man brutally beaten after a traffic accident last weekend died in a hospital and detectives will seek murder charges against his assailant, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Emanuel Bell, 33, died Tuesday at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center. He had been hospitalized since the 11:50 p.m. attack Saturday in the 1400 block of East 100th Street, said Deputy Rich Erickson.
Hubert Tatum, 27, initially was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. But detectives plan to ask county prosecutors to file murder charges against him, Erickson said.
Tatum and Bell were involved in a traffic crash and Bell ran from the scene. Tatum allegedly caught Bell and beat him severely. Tatum was arrested a short time later.
