GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Monroe Extends Sylmar but Loses

Kylie Roberson’s two free throws put Sylmar High ahead for good with two minutes left in the second overtime of a 74-71 victory over Monroe Friday in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Roberson scored 12 points for the host Spartans (11-2, 7-1) and Nadra Manley had 17.
Shirley Sotero-Higa scored 27 points for the Vikings (8-5, 4-3), but missed two free throws with no time left in the first overtime.
Monroe’s Anna Sotero-Higa hit a three-pointer to force overtime.
Taft 65, Granada Hills 24--Crystal Griffin scored 19 points for the Toreadors (15-2, 7-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Chatsworth 76, Cleveland 29--Nancy Vincent had 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Chancellors (15-6, 6-2) posted their sixth consecutive victory in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
North Hollywood 72, Van Nuys 47--Anna Celaya scored 33 points to help the Huskies (17-2, 8-0) to their 14th consecutive victory and 25th without a defeat in Valley Pac-8 Conference play.
Kennedy 44, El Camino Real 23--Tamaya Morris had 17 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and six steals for the Golden Cougars (16-6, 7-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory.
Tammy Ross added 10 points and 27 rebounds for Kennedy.
Birmingham 53, San Fernando 22--Dana Schybeller had 15 points for the Braves (7-9, 4-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Poly 48, Grant 45--Monie Simmons scored the winning basket for the Parrots (11-9, 4-4) with under a minute remaining in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Oakwood 34, Holy Martyrs 33--Tami Spokane hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Gorillas (11-4, 10-0) the Liberty League championship.
Providence 38, Avalon 36--Melanie Morales’s tip-in with three seconds left gave the Pioneers (10-3, 6-2) a Liberty victory.
