MO BETTER

Although this much-loved gentleman was never a recording artist himself, Mo Ostin is definitely a tough act--for anyone connected in the music industry--to follow (“Quotations From Chairman Mo,” by Robert Hilburn and Chuck Philips, Dec. 11).
His unbelievable care and concern for the great (and not-so-great) artists he worked with allowed them to create the music that will be with us forever. In the next life, Mo, I’m signing with you!

Reading your article on Mo Ostin rang true and clear. I remember the time when I had purchased a James Taylor record for demonstration in my high-end audio store in Hawaii, only to get three bad copies. I promptly packaged up the last copy and sent it off to Ostin. It said he was “the main guy” in the liner notes. I thought to myself, “Here goes nothing.” Not too much later I received a perfect copy of the record and a letter from the desk of Mo Ostin. It is obvious that he cares about the right things!
