PREP ROUNDUP : Clayton’s 34 Help Katella Stay Unbeaten

LaByron Clayton had 34 points and 13 rebounds as Katella, the eighth-ranked team in Orange County, beat Western, 74-53, in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Friday at Katella.
Mike Pahl added 26 points for Katella (11-0). The Knights led, 25-8, after the first quarter.
Richard Mackie had 21 points, including two three-pointers, and Paul Lindemeyer added 16 points for Western (4-7).
In other nonleague games:

Fullerton 53, Valencia 52--Ryan Schatz made two free throws with eight seconds left to put Fullerton ahead, 53-52. Valencia took a 52-51 lead on a jump shot by Jim Rivera with 10 seconds left.
Sam Mankiewicz had 14 points and five rebounds for the Indians (7-3), who won their seventh consecutive game.

Trabuco Hills 72, El Toro 68--Nick Punto scored a game-high 33 points to lead host Trabuco Hills (7-4). Punto made six three-pointers and was 10 of 11 on free throws.
Scott Hall scored 28 points and Travis Senik added 15 for El Toro (4-7).

Honolulu St. Louis 77, Pacifica 59--Shane Miller scored 16 points and Mike Noguchi added 12 for host Pacifica (4-6), which led by seven at the end of the first quarter but was outscored, 23-9, in the second quarter.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Brea Olinda 1, Kennedy 1--Danny Arrlguin’s unassisted goal early in the second half gave Kennedy the tie, despite being outshot 15-4. Andy Wirz scored in the 25th minute for Brea Olinda (6-3-3). Isaac Ugay assisted on Wirz’s goal.
