The corner of Talbert Avenue and Bushard Street looks like any other suburban intersection today, with its sprinkling of strip malls and concrete walls that separate the busy roads from quiet neighborhoods.
But the crossroads is considered the birthplace of Fountain Valley. The area was once home to a general store, a church and other buildings. For the first half of the century, it served as a central trading post for farmers who lived in the area. For decades, the area was known as Talbert Village--named after early developer James Talbert.
After World War II, the crossroads was slowly transformed. Today, only the church and a boarded-up building stand as reminders of Talbert Village.
