Surf’s Up: The Surf Industry Manufacturers Assn. in Corona del Mar says surfing sales were up for 1994.
The estimated number of surfers in the United States grew to 1.48 million, up from 1.35 million for 1993 and 1.1 million the year before. That figure is based in part on “core equipment sales” of wet suits and surfboards.
Surfboard sales rose to 315,000 this year, the trade group said, up from 285,000 for 1993. And sales of wet suit rose to 467,000, up from 425,000.
