SANTA ANA — A 20-year-old man was shot in the head early Sunday while driving in a car with friends and died several hours later, police said.
An unknown assailant fired at Marcos Anthony Mondragon, of Santa Ana as he drove with three friends, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Anthony Levatino said.
Mondragon’s friends immediately drove him to a Santa Ana hospital emergency room and he was later transferred to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he later died, Levatino said.
Police say they don’t have a motive for the shooting, which took place at 2:20 a.m. near 1500 W. Edinger Ave. It is being investigated by the department’s gang unit. Levatino said investigators do not know if the shooter was passing in another car or was on foot.
