PREP ROUNDUP : Top-Ranked Marina Girls Extend Unbeaten Streak to 40 in Soccer

The Marina girls’ soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 40 games as the Vikings defeated El Modena, 4-2, in a season-opening game Monday at El Modena.
Shannon Cuthbertson, Kristen Palmer, Cassie Campbell and Megan Orach scored for No. 1 Marina, the two-time defending Southern Section Division I champions.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Fountain Valley 4, Tustin 0--Joey Vasquez and Adam Novak each scored two goals and Scott Hainlen recorded seven saves to lead host Fountain Valley (1-0).
El Dorado 2, Troy 0--Ernesto Fonseca and Brad Myrand scored second-half goals to lead El Dorado (1-0). Robert Connell had 18 saves for Troy (0-1).
El Toro 2, Laguna Hills 1--Deiter Segura and Bryan Roney each scored a goal to lead visiting El Toro (1-0). Charlie Noble scored one goal for Laguna Hills (0-1).
