Clinton Shows Who’s Commander in Chief
WASHINGTON — President Clinton went jogging on a U.S. Army base Monday in a navy blue-and-gold exercise suit with the words Commander in Chief emblazoned in huge gold letters across his back. The President spent slightly more than half an hour at Ft. McNair, a short ride from the White House, accompanied by soldiers from the base.
Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) had said recently that he thinks Clinton is unfit to be commander in chief. He followed that last week with a statement that the President “better have a bodyguard” should he visit North Carolina bases. After a public furor over the latter comment, the senator called it “a mistake.”
