Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Kidnap, Rape Suspect Is Cleared

SANTA CLARITA — Prosecutors refused to file charges Monday against a Santa Clarita man who was arrested last week on suspicion of kidnap and rape after he provided investigators with a valid alibi.
Steven Bloomer, 40, was arrested Nov. 21 after an unidentified prostitute told police that Bloomer had taken her to a Santa Clarita location where she watched him molest a 5-year-old girl. The prostitute had also told police that Bloomer attacked her as well.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Dan Damon said Monday investigators had determined that the little girl was with her grandmother at the time of the alleged molestation.
“It was factually impossible,” Damon said. “Her story didn’t hold up.”
Bloomer, who described the experience as the worst of his life, said he was grateful to the sheriff’s investigator who checked out his story and cleared him of wrongdoing.
“It was very humiliating and very shaming,” Bloomer said. “There were accusations that just didn’t coincide with what really happened, but I had evidence showing where I was and what had really happened.”
