LOS ANGELES : Council to Consider Sister Status for Ho Chi Minh City
- Share via
The Los Angeles City Council today is scheduled to consider Mayor Richard Riordan’s proposal to set up a sister city relationship with Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon.
Some Vietnam veterans groups have called the move premature, saying the Communist government still must account for missing soldiers.
According to Riordan, a delegation from the former South Vietnamese capital visited Los Angeles in May and expressed an interest in developing economic ties. Los Angeles has 17 sister cities, including Athens, Berlin, Bombay, Mexico City, Taipei, St. Petersburg and Guangzhou.
