Highlights
Seven of the league’s eight teams competed in the Southern Section playoffs, led by Division III-AA champion Santa Margarita. All-county twin forwards Brian and Brad Finneran helped the Eagles cruise through the playoffs by an average victory margin of more than 18 points. Santa Margarita’s closest game came against Servite in the final, where the Eagles posted a 67-53 victory. Santa Margarita also reached the Southern California Regionals Division III semifinals in the state playoffs. . . . Tustin, behind first-team all-county guard Doug Gottlieb, tied Santa Margarita for the league title and then advanced to the Division II-A semifinals. Gottlieb averaged more than 18 points and eight assists. . . . Corona del Mar, led by Ramin Bastani, advanced to the Division IV-AA semifinals before losing to La Puente Bassett, 67-64. . . . University’s Demitrius Zeigler finished the regular season for the second consecutive year as the county’s leading scorer with a 25.9 average. . . . Tustin and Saddleback have moved to the Golden West League, with University now in the Pacific Coast League. El Toro comes in from the South Coast League.
