OUTLOOK

No seniors, no player taller than 6-3 and only three victories a year ago. Could be another long season. But Webb is confident his teachings are taking hold and insists the team will show improvement. “It’s a tough league to be short in,” Webb said. “But we’ll surprise a few people with our quickness.” Alemany lost 16 games in a row last season. Pantoja, who started part-time last season, averaged six points a game.

OUTLOOK

Young makes his varsity head-coaching debut after a two-year stint as an assistant at Cal Lutheran, where he played two seasons. He picked a difficult league to enter. “There won’t be an easy game on the schedule,” he said. Experience is limited. Yang is a returning starter who averaged 13 points a game. Ellis averaged 4.1 points.

OUTLOOK

Marcaccini, who averaged 17 points a game last season, is among the area’s top forwards and the Celts have a talented enough supporting cast to contend for league supremacy. Yerina, who became coach at midseason last January following the death of Coach Paul Muff, scheduled 30 summer-league games. Crespi lost the first six but won 11 of the last 13. “A lot of things are looking positive,” Yerina said.

OUTLOOK

The Wolverines, who advanced to the Division III-A semifinals last season, are ranked second in the state in Division III by Cal-Hi Sports and are a consensus pick to win the league championship. The Collins twins have each grown an inch and gotten stronger. Jason is among the area’s best big men. Seems almost unfair that league opponents will have to deal with them for another three seasons. Robbins is another returning starter and Isaacson saw considerable action off the bench.

Zapata, who averaged 18.2 points last season, is headed to Nevada Reno, but the team’s destination is uncertain. The Knights lost a Divsion III-A wild-card game against Moorpark last season. There’s not much size, and Notre Dame could be in deep against teams like Harvard-Westlake. But the players can play defense and shoot from the outside, Perez said.

St. Francis moves from the Del Rey League to the Mission League this season with little experience or size. Papadopulos is the only returning starter. He averaged nine points and six assists last season. Lepe averaged four points. Long-distance shooting is a strength. Khatchourian, who averaged 14 points to lead the junior varsity, is the best of several long-range specialists.
