COACH: Jeff Davis

OUTLOOK
With a nice blend of size, skill and quickness, the Bulldogs have potential. Youth is a concern, however. The juniors played on a 20-2 team as freshman, losing only to Mater Dei and Notre Dame that season. Those players are 35-8 over two years. Davis likes what he has seen in practice. “There’s good chemistry,” he said. “I really like these guys. We should be one of the better teams in the area. I’ve never had a team that practiced so hard.”
Burroughs
1994 OVERALL LEAGUE PLACE 2-17 1-7 5th
COACH YR. AT SCHOOL Art Sullivan 4th
TOP RETURNEES POS HT YR Scott Boldvich F/C 6-3 Sr. Julius Rodriguez G 5-10 Sr. David Trejo F 6-2 Sr.
TOP NEWCOMERS POS HT YR Lionel Johnson G 5-11 Sr. Danny Court C/F 6-4 Jr. Eddie Bufkin F 6-0 Jr. Spiritt Garrett F 6-1 So. J.K. Scott G 6-2 So. Steve Silveira G 6-0 So. Bobby Moore F 6-0 So. Floyd Nolan C 6-4 Sr. Doug Bennick G 5-8 Sr.
OUTLOOK
One thing seems clear--the Indians won’t go 2-17 again. They can be a surprise team if all the elements blend together. Johnson, at 5-11, rebounds, dunks and can go one-on-one with almost anybody. Trejo can make the three-point shot. Silveira spent the summer playing pick-up ball in Philadelphia parks. “We’re a much better team, far more athletic,” Sullivan said. “We’ve got good depth with solid starters. I’m excited. But I don’t know how quickly they’ll develop.”
Canyon
1994 OVERALL LEAGUE PLACE 20-7 6-2 2nd
COACH YR. AT SCHOOL Greg Hayes 13th
TOP RETURNEES POS HT YR Greg Minor G 6-2 1/2 Sr. Brian Connelly F 6-3 Sr. Louis Moore F 6-2 Jr. Mark Quest G 5-10 Jr.
TOP NEWCOMERS POS HT YR Brian Nichols C 6-9 Jr. Todd Suenaka F 6-1 Jr. Mike Moye F 6-2 Sr. Steve Boldroff G 5-10 So. Jeremy Montgomery F 6-3 Jr. Sean DeLong G 5-10 Sr.
OUTLOOK
Minor is the best player in the league and might be the best guard in the area. He holds Canyon records for most points in a career (1,138) and in a season (619), most three-point shots made in a career (140) and in a season (67). But he doesn’t have much of a supporting cast. Minor, the only returning starter, must lead a young team in transition. “Greg gives you a chance to win a lot of games,” Hayes said. “The key is how the younger guys come along.”
Hart
1994 OVERALL LEAGUE PLACE 21-2 8-0 1st
COACH YR. AT SCHOOL Mike May 3rd
TOP RETURNEES POS HT YR Mike Posey G 6-3 Sr. Nick Lewandowski F 6-3 Sr. Zach Koebel F 6-2 Sr. Dave Pinsel G 5-9 Sr. Patrick Lee G 6-0 Sr. Doug Nixon F 6-0 Sr.
TOP NEWCOMERS POS HT YR Amir Parvanchiha F 6-2 Jr. Bryan Kirk C 6-4 So. Corey Johnson F 6-3 So. Chris McCabe F 6-2 Sr. Casey Keltner F 6-1 Jr.
OUTLOOK
It looks like a rebuilding year for the Indians, who were the Valley’s top-ranked team through much of last season before bowing in the first round of the playoffs. Gone is All-Valley forward Cody Patterson (15 ppg., 8 rpg.) and point guard Eric Spindt (9.5 ppg., 5.4 assists). Hart again will run a disciplined, half-court offense and an all-out pressure defense with Posey leading the attack. Posey is the only returner who had significant playing time.
Saugus
1994 OVERALL LEAGUE PLACE 11-12 3-5 3rd
COACH YR. AT SCHOOL Jeff Hallman 1st
TOP RETURNEES POS HT YR Ryan Berg C 6-5 Sr. Jeff Rogers G 6-1 Sr.
TOP NEWCOMERS POS HT YR Mark Beatty F 6-2 Sr. Brian Finley G 6-1 Sr. Dusty Bowman G 6-0 Sr. Todd Krogh F 6-2 Jr.
OUTLOOK
Former assistant coach Hallman, 36, inherits a team hit hard by graduation and faces a big challenge. With a squad that lacks size, experience and depth, Hallman must keep the Centurions positive.
