OUTLOOK
Mercer inherits three starters from last year’s fourth-place team. First-team all-league selection Jennifer Christensen is back at guard for her senior year. She will be relied upon to not only run the offense, but also contribute points on the board. Herrera and Brandy Mercer are also expected to help with the scoring. Coach Mercer says guard Mercer is one of the best freshmen in the county, and that’s not because she’s his daughter. Sister Pearl, a transfer from Loara, will add experience, along with fellow senior Siefken. Inexperience is Mercer’s biggest concern, and rightfully so. Most of the newcomers have never played varsity ball before. Team speed could help alleviate the lack of experience. Ray, a transfer from Troy, will add to the depth in the backcourt. Mercer says a playoff berth would be nice, but it’s not a priority. Another .500 record is the team’s first priority. Expect the Sentinels to battle with Savanna and Western for a playoff berth.
